Northern Territory secures its first AMC medal in 10 years!

The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) is proud to announce the list of medallists for the 2014 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank.

The AMT welcomed hundreds of thousands of students from more than 40 countries to test their mathematics skills in early August.  The AMC is Australia’s original classroom-based mathematics competition with more than 14 million entries since 1978. The AMC awards more than 1000 prizes and 70 medals annually.

In 2014, a significant number of students achieved scores worthy of a medal. The medallist list grew to 77, with 34 of these being top Australian students representing all states and territories. It has been ten years since an AMC medal has been awarded in the Northern Territory.

The 37th annual AMC Medals Presentation will be held at Government House, Brisbane, on Friday 7 November, hosted by His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland.

The Commonwealth Bank is the AMC’s principal sponsor.  Vanessa Nolan-Woods, General Manager Schools and Not for Profit Sector Banking, stated, ‘We are proud to be associated with the Australian Mathematics Competition. Mathematics is central to understanding finance and smart money management is a crucial skill to prepare students to be secure, successful adults.  For those students who have been awarded medals in the competition, we congratulate them on their outstanding results’.
