About the Australian Mathematics Trust
Vision
The vision of the Australian Mathematics Trust is to challenge and encourage Australians in the understanding of
mathematics and informatics to realise their intellectual potential.
Structure
The Trust is a national non-profit organisation whose purpose is to enrich
the teaching and learning of mathematics for students
of all standards. It administers mathematical enrichment activities for
Australian and international students and publishes books
on mathematical enrichment.
Its Trustee is the University of Canberra via the comany
AMTT Limited and the Trust's Board comprises
representation from the Australian
Academy of Science, the Australian Mathematical Society, the Australian Association of
Mathematics Teachers, and a number of academics
and corporate people.
Intellectual Property
All problems for Australian Mathematics Trust events are set to the highest standards. Uniquely, they are
- Original problems,
- composed in Australia,
- by teams of Australia's most experienced teachers and academics,
- working in problems committees as volunteers, and
- heavily moderated by further volunteers for mathematical and typographical accuracy.
Activities of the Trust
The best known activity of the Trust is the Australian Mathematics Competition
which is the original mathematics competition in Australia, dating back to 1978, and which attracts hundreds of
thousands of entries annually, from Australia and overseas. The Trust also incorporates the
Australian
Mathematical Olympiad Committee (AMOC), which runs many mathematics activities, culminating in selection of a team of
students who represent Australia internationally, and the
Australian Informatics Olympiad Committee (AIOC),
which runs a number of activities in Informatics (Computer Science), culminating in
selection of a team of students who represent
Australia internationally.
The Trust also has a publishing arm, AMT Publishing,
which publishes a range of books, journals,
past papers and material in other formats. These publications include pedagogical
material and collections of problems of all
