The 2001 AMC
The 2001 AMC was held on Tuesday 31 July.
Medallists are announced below. Australian and New Zealand medals were presented at a function at Old Parliament House, Canberra, on Monday 5 November, by the President of the Australian Academy of Science, Professor Brian Anderson AO FAA FRS.
The Malaysian medal was presented at an assembly of the SMJK Katholik School, Petaling Jaya, Selangor by Executive Director Professor Peter Taylor on Monday 22 October.
Singapore medallists were presented with their awards at a function at the Mandarin Hotel in Singapore on Wednesday 24 October by the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, the Hon Gary Quinlan.
Philippine medals were presented at a function on Friday 26 October at Department of Science and Technology Executive Lounge, Taguig, Manila by the Philippines Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr Estrella F Alabastro. She was assisted by Undersecretary Dr Leopoldo LH Lazatin and the Australian Embassy was represented by its Charge d'Affaires, the Hon Tony Melville.
Hong Kong medals were awarded at a function at Munsang College (Hong Kong Island) on Wednesday 16 January 2002 by Deputy Australian Consul General Mr John Pilbeam.
Taiwan medals were awarded at a function at National Taiwan Normal University on Saturday 19 January 2002. Special guests were University President Dr Chien, Education Studies Dean Dr Wu and Professor Taylor.
Bulgarian Medals were presented on Monday February 25 2002 at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. His Excellency Stuart Hume the Ambassador of Australia to Greece and Bulgaria, H.E. Stefan Stoianov, Bulgarian Ambassador to Greece (who is himself a mathematician), Mrs. Indiana Trifonova the Consulate of Australia to Bulgaria were also present. The event was hosted by Prof. Stefan Dodunekov, Director of the Institute of Maths and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Science and Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians.
