Brits take Mathematics Ashes
Posted Friday 10 July 2009
Australia's team has lost the Mathematics Ashes
in a tight 67 to 61 result. Competing
against the United Kingdom team for the second time, Australia was not able to retain
the urn they had won in the inaugural contest last year.
This year's contest took place at Trinity College, Cambridge, a legendary home
of mathematics. The two teams have been training together as a prelude to participating in
the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Bremen next week.

Students from both teams are seen here writing the exam.
There was a highlight for the Australian team. Andrew Elvey Price, who won a Silver
Medal at last year's IMO, scored a perfect 21 points in this event.
Last year Australia won by a relatively comfortable margin of 72 points to 55.
