Canberra street named after David Paget
Posted Wednesday 18 February 2009
A street in the Canberra suburb of Bruce, a few hundred metres behind the
Australian Mathematics Trust's office at the University of Canberra,
has been named after
Dr David Paget (1943-1997), who was for several years the
Leader of the Australian team at the
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), Director of Training of the
Australian Mathematics Olympiad
program and Director of the Australian Mathematical Olympiad
Committee (AMOC) for the state of Tasmania.

Behind the signpost can be seen the Canberra Stadium, Australian Institute of Sport
and Black Mountain with the Telstra Tower.
Streets in Bruce are generally named after Australian academics. David was a Senior Lecturer
in Mathematics at the University of Tasmania for many years.
David radically developed the training programme for the Olympiad teams to essentially
the same structure we use to this day.
