Who are you?
Can I get a copy of my child’s certificate from a past competition?
We are able to accommodate requests from parents and students to provide digital copies of historical certificates from past competitions from 2020 up to the previous school year.
To request a historical certificate, please contact us with the name and year of the competition, the name of the student, year level, school and jurisdiction.
While earlier certificate records are limited, prize and award winners were previously listed in annual statistics books published by the AMT. If you participated prior to 2015 we may be able to access an excerpt that acknowledges your participation and result.

How can my child register for a competition or program?
All our competitions are delivered by schools. Only teachers at schools, home schools and tutoring centres can register students. Students cannot register individually.
We recommend you speak to your school to find out if they plan to run the competition or program, or if they would be willing to do so. We find a lot of schools are quite receptive to this request from parents.
We currently allow students to sit our competitions at private tutoring centres or coaching clinics, many of which advertise our competitions on their website.
If you are interested in trying our competition material, past papers can be accessed from our online shop. Your child may also like to try the sandpit and discovery series of maths and algorithmic problems on the free student portal of our Problemo platform.

My child has just participated in an AMT competition. Can you send me their results and certificate?
After awarding is completed, student results and certificates are provided by us directly to registered schools and centres.
We are not able to reissue certificates directly to parents or students for the current year without verification from the school. If you have not yet received your child’s results, we suggest you contact your school.

My child performed well at the AMC. Why didn’t they get invited to the award ceremony?
Toward the end of the year, the AMT conducts award events in each Australian jurisdiction for high-performing students.
From 2025, the AMT has extended the invitation to a broader range of students, including top performers not just in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), but in three of our other key competitions – the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) competition, the Australian Informatics Olympiad (AIO) and the Australian Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO).
The event really reflects the performance of students across a wide range of AMT’s problem-solving competitions in both mathematics and algorithmics.
The invitation list is determined to achieve a fair distribution across year levels, recognising the highest performers across the four competitions (AMC, CAT, AIO, and AIMO). The majority of the invitations are allocated to AMC participants, given the large number of students participating.
Invitations are limited to a small selection of students across the four competitions. This means that in the larger jurisdictions, receiving a Prize award in the AMC does not guarantee an invitation to the AMT awards event. A student may be invited because they were a high performer for their year level, even if their overall score or award was lower than students in other year levels who did not receive an invitation.

My child’s school is not offering the competition or program we are interested in. How can they participate?
We recommend you speak to your school to find out if they plan to run the competition or program, or if they would be willing to do so. We find that a lot of schools are quite receptive to this request from parents.
The AMT has, from time to time, and depending on the location, made arrangements for students to sit our competitions independently, where this opportunity is not provided at their school.
This involves unaffiliated students being supervised face-to-face at another school or suitable location, with support from AMT volunteers. Only students from schools that are not sitting the competition are eligible for the unaffiliated program.

We are a home school. How do we register for competitions or programs?
Students at homeschools can participate in AMT competitions and programs.
To register a homeschool, please complete the form on our website and provide us with a homeschool registration certificate letter from the education department in your jurisdiction.
Once we have verified your school and set up your school’s account in our system, you can register as a user in the AMT administration portal.

We have received my child’s performance certificate. Can you explain the information on the back?
All student participating in AMT competitions and programs receive a digital certificate, which is issued to their school. For most competitions, a hard copy certificate is also provided.
Students participating in our two flagship competitions, CAT and AMC, receive hard copy performance certificates which include the student’s award on the front, and a result report on the back.
The result report includes your child’s:
- total score
- a breakdown of scores across the three parts of the paper
- percentile ranking for their year level (and region for A
aMC) - responses to each question and the correct responses
- result summary in the different areas of mathematics
- performance against the average for the region for each topic area.
Awarding criteria for AMC and CAT are outlined on our website.
Please note that:
- For CAT, awards are determined by comparing a student’s results with other students in the same year level.
- For AMC, awards are determined by comparing a student’s results with other students in the same year level and region (Australian state or territory, or country).
- Percentile ranks are approximate and may vary according to the number of students participating and the score distribution.
