Inspired by the AMT’s Australian Mathematics Competition, Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF) is now the largest maths competitions in the world, with more than 6 million participants each year. Held in March, the KSF is a great opportunity for students to experience maths in a competition environment prior to the AMC in August.

Scoring System

Middle Primary division

  • Questions 1–8
    3 marks
  • Questions 9–16
    4 marks
  • Questions 17–24
    5 marks
  • Total 96 marks

Upper Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions

  • Questions 1–10
    3 marks
  • Questions 1–20
    4 marks
  • Questions 21–30
    5 marks
  • Total 120 marks

There is no penalty for incorrect responses.

Award Criteria

All students receive an award according to the criteria below.

Participation
Awarded to a student who has participated in the competition and received no higher award.

Credit
Awarded to a student who is in the top 50% of Australian participants (60% for Senior division) and has received no higher award.

Distinction
Awarded to a student who is in the top 15% of Australian participants (20% for Senior division) and has received no higher award.

High Distinction
Awarded to a student who is in the top 3% of Australian participants (5% for Senior division) and has received no higher award.

Cut-off scores for awards are determined by comparing a student’s results with other students in Australia. Cut-off scores are approximate and will vary year by year depending on the difficulty of the competition.

KSF is developed and delivered internationally by the Association Kangourou sans Frontières.
