Janine Sprakel (McIntosh) has joined the team at the Australian Maths Trust (AMT) as its National Partnerships and Engagement Manager.
In this newly created position, Janine will build on AMT’s commitment to develop of nation of creative problem solvers by developing relationships across the mathematical sector, government and industry.
Most recently Janine worked at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) where she was its Schools Program Manager. Janine’s early career was in primary teaching and she is an experienced lecturer in mathematics education.
“We’re so delighted to have Janine join the AMT team. She’s worked with as a Trust volunteer problems committee member for years and it’s wonderful that she’ll now be bringing her experience across industry, Government, teachers, parents and schools to help us deliver our mission,” said AMT CEO, Nathan Ford.
Equity, diversity and engagement are at the heart of Janine’s work, which is designed to address the decline in both the participation and perception of mathematics.
Janine has served on the AMT Problems Committee for the Maths Challenge for Young Australians, was a 2012 recipient of the B.H. Neumann Award and, as a student in 1978, took part in the AMT Mathematics Competition for the first time.
